Terms of Use
Locals 4 Good, a fundraising program of The Quietly Working Foundation
Effective date: October 26, 2026
Thank you for being here. These terms are the promises between you and us when you use locals4good.org or take part in Locals 4 Good as a donor-partner. We've kept them short and plain. If anything is unclear, ask us before you reserve.
"We" and "us" mean The Quietly Working Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (Employer Identification Number 20-5149597). Locals 4 Good is one of its fundraising programs, not a separate organization, and every donation supports The Missing Pixel Project, where young people learn real creative skills from professional mentors. "You" means you, and the business you act for.
By using the site or reserving a spot, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.
The short version
- Your donation reserves a spot on a 9 by 12 inch community card, mailed each month to every mailbox on one neighborhood's postal routes. One business per trade on each card.
- Free design is an offer, never a requirement, and nothing prints until you approve your proof.
- Cancel any month before its artwork is due, four weeks before it lands in mailboxes, for a full refund of that month.
- If a card isn't printed and mailed, for any reason, you will be offered a choice between a refund for that month and two credits.
- We can't promise results. We can promise care.
- If something goes wrong, talk to us first.
1. Who can take part
You must be 18 or older, and you must own the business you reserve for or have its permission to act for it.
2. How Locals 4 Good works
- Each card is a 9 by 12 inch community card, mailed once a month to every mailbox on the postal routes we list for one neighborhood, homes and businesses alike, through the United States Postal Service's Every Door Direct Mail program.
- Each card has sixteen spots. Each ad size uses one or more of them.
- Each card carries one business per trade. If you reserve a trade, no other business in that trade appears on that card, for that neighborhood and month. Businesses in different trades may offer some of the same services.
- A reservation covers one neighborhood and the months you choose.
- We design the card around the ads and decide where each ad sits.
- The Postal Service updates routes and mailbox counts over time. We mail to every mailbox on the listed routes as they stand when the card mails.
3. Reserving your spot
- When you press "Check Availability," we hold every open month in your trade, in that neighborhood, for 20 minutes so you can finish. If you don't, the hold ends and those months open again.
- Each ad size has a monthly donation amount, shown before you give. Reserving 3 to 11 months takes 10% off. Reserving 12 months or more takes 20% off.
- You make one donation, by card through Stripe, for all the months you reserve. Nothing renews on its own.
- A special offer carries the terms stated with it and in your confirmation, and those terms join these for that reservation.
- Our donation amounts may change, but a change never touches a reservation you've already made.
4. When a card mails
- As long as 13 of its 16 spots are reserved by the day its artwork is due, we print and mail the card. If, for any reason, a month's card isn't printed and mailed, you will be offered a choice between a refund for that month and two credits for the same size ad, in any of our neighborhoods, in any future month that's still open. Using credits never bumps a donor-partner who has already given. Credits are explained in section 9.
- Delivery. We set each card's mailing date with our print partner. The Postal Service then delivers it, and we can't control the exact day it reaches each mailbox.
- Our production calendar at locals4good.org/calendar shows every card's dates: when its artwork is due and when it lands in mailboxes.
5. Your donation, and taxes
Your donation supports the mission of The Quietly Working Foundation. Because it reserves advertising space on the card, you receive something of value in return, and that matters for taxes.
We're not accountants, and we'd never pretend to be. Only a qualified tax advisor can tell you what applies to your situation. Your receipt shows our Employer Identification Number and the amount of your donation.
6. Your ad
Free design is an offer, never a requirement. You choose one:
- We design it. Students in The Missing Pixel Project design your ad, free, from the brand details and materials you give us. Our team may use artificial intelligence tools to help draft ideas, and an award-winning professional reviews every design before you see it.
- You bring your own. Your own art is just as welcome. We prepare it for the card and for print, and we'll tell you the size and file types we need. Our students still learn from it.
You approve your proof. Nothing prints until you approve your proof. Please check every detail: names, phone numbers, addresses, license numbers and offers. Once you approve, your ad prints as approved. Tell us you approve by message in your portal or by email. Our designs include up to three rounds of changes, and if you truly need more, we'll make room.
Deadlines. Each card's artwork is due four weeks before it lands in mailboxes, so it can go to print on time. If your ad isn't approved by then, we'll run the last version you approved. If there isn't one, we'll move your spot to the next open month, or refund that month if you'd rather.
Print. Printed colors can look a little different from the same colors on a screen.
Your printed copy. We order extra cards, so we'll mail you a printed copy within two weeks after your card reaches mailboxes.
The online card. Once you reserve, the online preview of the card shows your business name, trade and website. Once you approve your ad, it shows the ad, linked to your website.
The students. We protect the young people in our program. We don't share their names or contact details, and we ask you not to seek them out. Your donation doesn't give anyone a say in which students join the program or how they're mentored. If you'd like to thank your designer, tell us, and we'll pass it on.
7. What your ad may say
You're responsible for your ad: its words, pictures, offers and claims, and for making sure it follows the laws for your trade. A few California examples, not legal advice:
- contractors show their state license number (and someone without a license must say so where the law requires it);
- real estate licensees show their license number and, where the rules require it, their responsible broker's name;
- attorneys include the name and office address of a lawyer or law firm responsible for the ad;
- health care providers follow their licensing board's advertising rules.
Our mentors review designs for quality and care, not for the legal rules of your trade. When you approve your proof, you confirm your ad is accurate and that you have the right to use everything in it, including logos, photos, words and any people shown.
We may decline an ad, or ask for changes, if we believe it breaks the law; is false or misleading; uses someone else's work, name or image without permission; is hateful, harassing, sexual or violent; could harm young people; or conflicts with the values of The Quietly Working Foundation. If we decline an ad you can't or don't want to change, we'll refund the months it affects, in full.
We don't carry ads for cannabis, tobacco or vaping products, firearms, gambling, payday or title loans, adult entertainment, or political campaigns.
8. Rights in your ad
- You keep ownership of your name, logo, brand and materials.
- You give us permission to use what you send, and your finished ad, to design, lay out, print and mail the card; to show it on our site, including the online card; and to teach our students inside the program.
- The ad we design for you is yours to use in your own marketing too. We may show it as an example of our students' work, without naming the student.
- Once a card mails, it's public. We may show the printed card, with your ad as it appears on it, when we share the program's work. We won't feature or name your business on its own without asking you first. Our print partner may keep a few printed cards as samples of its work.
- If you send us ideas or suggestions, we may use them to improve Locals 4 Good, with no obligation to you.
9. If plans change
- Cancelling. Cancel any month before its artwork is due, four weeks before it lands in mailboxes, and you get a full refund of that month. After that day, the month is on its way to print. Write [email protected].
- Refunds go back to the card you gave with, within 10 business days of our yes. Your bank may take a few more days to show it.
- If a card can't mail, for any reason, including a printing problem, a Postal Service problem, fire or other disaster, you will be offered a choice between a refund for that month and two credits (section 4).
- Credits. Each credit is good for one month of the same size ad, in any of our neighborhoods, in any future month that's still open. Credits don't expire while Locals 4 Good runs. You can use them for your own business; to pass them to another business, ask us first.
10. No promise of results
We work hard to make your ad beautiful and the card worth keeping. But we can't promise any number of calls, visits or jobs from your ad. Results depend on many things we don't control.
11. Texts
If you ask us to text you, or you text us first, we'll text you about your messages, your reservation and your card. How often depends on the conversation. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop our texts, or HELP for help, at any time. We never share your mobile number, or your permission to text you, with anyone for their marketing.
12. Your portal account
- We create your account when your donation goes through. You sign in with a link we email you, or with a password.
- Keep your sign-in private and your details current, and tell us right away if you think someone else has used your account.
- To close your account, write [email protected].
- We may pause an account that's being misused.
13. Using the site fairly
Please don't:
- pretend to be someone else, or give someone else's information without their permission;
- hold spots you don't mean to reserve, to keep others out;
- copy the site with automated tools, or interfere with how it works or how it's protected;
- send us anything unlawful or harmful, or anything that infringes someone else's rights.
14. Our names and content
The site, the card's design, and the Locals 4 Good name and heart belong to The Quietly Working Foundation. You may use our name to refer to the program accurately; please ask before using our logo. The neighborhood facts on our pages come from public United States Census and Postal Service data.
15. Links to other websites
The online card links to donor-partners' websites, and our pages link to other sites we trust. We aren't responsible for other websites or how they handle your information.
16. The site as it is
We're a nonprofit with limited resources. We keep the site running as well as we can, but it may sometimes be slow or unavailable, and neighborhood facts drawn from public estimates may not be exact. To the fullest extent the law allows, the site is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind.
17. Limits on liability
If we get something wrong with your ad or a card, we'll fix it, run it again, or refund the month it affects. Beyond that, and to the fullest extent the law allows, The Quietly Working Foundation and its directors, officers, team members, volunteers, mentors and students aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, such as lost income or lost opportunities, and our total liability for any claim about Locals 4 Good is limited to what you gave for the months the claim affects. These limits never excuse fraud, harm we cause on purpose, or anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit.
18. If a claim arises from your ad
You agree to cover The Quietly Working Foundation and its directors, officers, team members, volunteers, mentors and students for claims, losses and reasonable legal costs that come from your ad's content, the materials you send, or your breaking these terms or the law.
19. If something goes wrong between us
Please talk to us first. Write [email protected], tell us what happened and what would make it right, and give us 30 days to fix it. Most things are settled with a conversation. If we can't settle it, either of us may take it to small claims court, or to the Superior Court of California for the County of Orange. California law governs these terms.
20. For California residents
You can reach us with a question or complaint at [email protected], (949) 373-3730, or the address in section 23. The Complaint Assistance Unit of the Division of Consumer Services of the California Department of Consumer Affairs can be reached in writing at 1625 North Market Boulevard, Suite N 112, Sacramento, California 95834, or by phone at (800) 952-5210.
21. Changes to these terms
We'll post changes here with a new effective date, and email donor-partners with portal accounts at least 30 days before a significant change takes effect. A change never takes back something we promised for a reservation you've already made.
22. The rest
- These terms, our Privacy Policy, and the details of your reservation shown at checkout and in your confirmation are the whole agreement between us about Locals 4 Good. The foundation's general terms at quietlyworking.org/terms cover its other programs; where the two differ about Locals 4 Good, these terms govern.
- If part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
- If we don't enforce a term right away, we haven't given it up.
- You can't hand your reservation or these terms to someone else without our okay in writing. Ask us; when the new business fits the card's one-per-trade rule, we'll usually say yes.
- We aren't responsible for delays or failures caused by things beyond our reasonable control.
- We may send notices to the email address in your portal. You can send notices to [email protected], with "Notice" in the subject, or by mail.
