Locals 4 Good, a fundraising program of The Quietly Working Foundation
Effective date: October 26, 2026
Locals 4 Good is a fundraising program of The Quietly Working Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (Employer Identification Number 20-5149597). Local business owners, our donor-partners, make a donation that reserves a spot on a community card mailed each month to every mailbox on chosen postal routes in one neighborhood, homes and businesses alike. Every donation supports The Missing Pixel Project, where young people learn real creative skills from professional mentors.
This policy explains what we collect on locals4good.org and through Locals 4 Good, why, who helps us handle it, and the choices you have. "We" and "us" mean The Quietly Working Foundation.
The short version
- We collect what you share with us, the basic details every website receives, and, if we design your ad, what's on your public website.
- We never sell your information, and we never share it with anyone for their own marketing. That includes your mobile number and any permission you give us to text you.
- Our site uses no analytics, no advertising trackers, and nothing that follows you around the web.
- Calls to our line are recorded, and you'll hear a notice before any recording starts.
- Receipts and sign-in emails always reach you. Anything optional, you can stop at any time, and we keep a note of your "stop" so we keep honoring it.
- We don't keep a list of the neighbors who receive the card.
- Questions? Write [email protected] or call (949) 373-3730, and a real person will get back to you.
1. What we collect, and when
When you visit. Every page reaches you through servers that receive your device's internet address and basic browser details, such as browser type, language and the page you asked for. Our host, Cloudflare, receives these with every visit. So does Google, which delivers our typefaces. Ordinary browsing sets no cookies.
When you send a message. Our contact form asks for your name, whether you'd like a reply by email or by text, your email address or phone number, and your message. We note which page you sent it from. A person on our team reads every message. The first reply may come from Ezer Aión, the assistant who helps Chaplain TIG, written with the help of an artificial intelligence model (section 11).
When you ask to hear when a spot or a neighborhood opens. We ask for your name and email address, and we note the trade and neighborhood. You'll get a short confirmation right away, then one email when it opens. We don't use your address for anything else.
When your trade isn't listed. You can tell us what you do in the trade check. It reaches us like any message, with your name and email address.
When you raise a flag for a neighborhood. Our pages may ask where you'd love the card to go next. You can answer by typing a ZIP code or picking a neighborhood. We keep the ZIP code or neighborhood you picked, when you picked it, the page you were on, whether you came from a link a neighbor shared, and a random number your browser makes, so each flag counts once and you can lower it later. If you tell us your trade, we keep that too. We note whether each flag counts, was lowered, or was set aside because one connection sent more flags in a day than we count. To spot that, we keep a one-way code made from your device's internet address with a key we replace every day. We delete each day's key when the day ends, so after that the code can't be turned back into your address. We never keep the address itself. Raising a flag never asks for your name or email address, and we never show anyone your ZIP code, your trade or your flag. When we list neighborhoods to pick from, we show how many flags each one has, and that number includes the flags raised for its ZIP codes. A link you share to ask a neighbor carries only the place, never anything about you.
When you reserve a spot. You give us your trade, your name, email address and business name, and you may add a phone number and website. When you press "Check Availability," we hold the open months for 20 minutes and save your name and email address with that hold. We keep that record even if you don't finish. Your browser also keeps the email address you typed, so our thank-you page can show it. It stays there until you clear this site's data.
When you make your donation. You give through Stripe's secure checkout page. Stripe collects your card details and may ask for billing details it needs to check the card. We never see or store your full card number. We send Stripe your name, email address, business name and phone number (if you gave one) so it can set up your payment record. Stripe tells us the donation went through, the amount, and its reference numbers.
In your donor-partner portal. When your donation goes through, we create your portal account with your email address and name. You sign in with a link we email you, or with a password if you set one. In the portal we keep:
- your name, and your business name, phone number and website (you can change these in Settings);
- the brand details you give us if we design your ad: your main service, who you serve, what makes you different, your colors, tagline, tone, call to action, and anything that must be included;
- files you upload, such as your artwork and images you share in messages;
- your messages with our team, including replies you send by email;
- your proof decisions and any changes you ask for;
- feedback you choose to give, including any testimonial;
- which optional emails you want.
For your printed copy. After your card reaches mailboxes, we mail you a printed copy, so we'll ask where you'd like it sent. Our print partner sends the extra cards to us and we mail yours ourselves, so your address stays with us.
When you call, text or meet with us.
- Calls to (949) 373-3730 are recorded, including voicemail. Before any recording starts, you'll hear: "I record all my calls so I don't miss anything that matters." Recordings are turned into text by OpenAI's transcription service, and an artificial intelligence assistant (Anthropic's Claude) writes a short summary for our team.
- Texts to that number get an automatic reply chosen by the words in your text (no artificial intelligence writes it), and a person on our team reads every one. We keep your number and the messages, and we add you to our contact records so we can follow up.
- Video calls with Chaplain TIG on Zoom may be recorded and transcribed. Zoom shows everyone on the call when recording is on. An artificial intelligence assistant summarizes the meeting and helps draft any follow-up, which a person reviews before it's sent.
- We keep the emails you send us, and notes from our conversations, so we remember what matters to you.
From other places.
- If we design your ad, we look at your public website, and may look at your public social media pages, to learn your colors, style and services.
- If someone introduces you to us, we keep the contact details they share.
- When we look for local owners who might like to join, we may use public business listings, such as map listings and business websites.
2. How we use it
We use your information to:
- answer your messages and requests;
- hold your spot, receive your donation and send your receipt;
- open and run your portal account;
- design or lay out your ad, show you proofs, and print and mail the card;
- mail you a printed copy;
- keep you posted on your card, if you say yes;
- text you when you've asked us to;
- remember our conversations, so we can serve you well;
- keep the site safe (for example, messages that look like spam are set aside for a person to review instead of being answered automatically);
- keep the records a nonprofit must keep, and meet our other legal duties;
- make Locals 4 Good better.
We don't use your information for advertising.
3. What the public sees
- The online card. Each neighborhood page shows a live preview of each month's card. Once you reserve a spot, the preview shows your business name, your trade, your website and whether your ad is ready. Once you approve your ad, it shows your ad, linked to your website.
- The printed card. Your approved ad goes to every mailbox on that card's routes.
- We don't publish the contact name, email address, phone number or donation amount you give us.
- We won't publish your feedback, a testimonial or your name in our stories without asking you first.
- We never publish the names, photos or identifying details of the students who design ads.
4. Who helps us
We share information with the services that help us run Locals 4 Good, and only what each needs to do its part. Each handles it under its own privacy policy, and none may use it for its own marketing.
- Cloudflare hosts and delivers the site.
- Supabase runs our database, sign-in system and file storage, in the United States.
- Stripe receives donations by card. Stripe's privacy policy is at stripe.com/privacy.
- Google delivers our typefaces (Google Fonts). Your browser fetches them from Google, which gives Google your internet address and browser details.
- Amazon Web Services and Microsoft 365 send our emails and hold our mailboxes. The servers that run our automations are on Microsoft Azure.
- Twilio runs our phone line and text messages.
- OpenAI turns call recordings into text.
- OpenRouter, which passes our requests to Anthropic's Claude models, summarizes calls and meetings, helps write Ezer's email replies, and helps draft ad ideas from your brand details and public website.
- Zoom runs our video calls.
- SuiteDash holds our contact records and runs the page where you book a time to talk.
- Discord holds our team's private notice board. When you send us a message or a text, it receives your name, how to reach you and the first part of your message. When a donation arrives, it receives the donor-partner's name, business name, email address, ad size, months and donation amount.
- Switchy runs some of our short links and printed scan codes, and counts each visit before sending you to our site. We don't attach advertising pixels to our links.
- Printing4SuperCheap, our print partner, receives the finished card, with your approved ad on it, and ships it to the post office.
- The United States Postal Service delivers the card.
- The Quietly Working Foundation's own systems. Locals 4 Good is part of the foundation, so your contact details and email choices live in the foundation's single set of relationship records, shared across its programs. That's how a "stop" you tell us once is honored everywhere. Our team also follows each card from booking to mailbox on internal dashboards. And the list of the foundation's programs at the foot of each page comes from the foundation's own site (twin.quietlyworking.org): your browser asks for it, which gives that site your internet address and browser details, the same as visiting any page.
5. When else we share
- When the law requires it, or when we must to protect someone's safety or the foundation's rights.
- When you ask us to.
We don't sell, rent or trade your information, and we don't share it with anyone for their own marketing. We never share your mobile number, or your permission to text you, with anyone for their marketing.
6. Cookies and browser storage
- Ordinary browsing sets no cookies.
- Signing in to your portal sets cookies that keep you signed in. The portal can't work without them.
- Small notes in your browser. Our site keeps whether you chose the light or the dark look, the email address you typed at checkout (for the thank-you page), whether you folded up the portal's side menu, and, if you raise a flag for a neighborhood, which flags you raised, any neighborhood you lowered, and the random number sent with them. When there are neighborhoods to pick from, it also keeps a random number that keeps their order the same for you. Your browser also remembers your scroll position as you move between pages. None of these is used to track you.
- Stripe's checkout page uses Stripe's own cookies.
- Notifications. The site doesn't ask to send you browser notifications.
You can clear cookies and site data in your browser at any time. If you do, you'll need to sign in to your portal again.
7. Do Not Track
Some browsers can send a "Do Not Track" signal. Our site doesn't track you across other websites and uses no analytics or advertising tools, so we treat every visitor the same way, whether the signal is on or off. The same goes for a Global Privacy Control signal: we don't sell or share your information for advertising, so there's nothing to switch off. No other company collects information about your activity across websites through our site.
8. Emails, texts and your choices
Always sent: receipts, sign-in links, password resets, messages our team writes to you about your reservation, and replies to messages you send us. These can't be switched off, because they're part of serving you.
Your choice: updates as your card takes shape (your proof is ready, it's off to print, it's in mailboxes), and an occasional personal note from Chaplain TIG. We ask once, in your portal. Until you say yes, we send only the essentials.
Changing your mind: use the link in any optional email, the "Manage your preferences" button in your portal's Settings, or preferences.quietlyworking.org (you'll confirm by email). Or just reply and tell us. Optional emails carry our mailing address and a way to stop them, and we honor a stop right away.
Texts: we text you only if you asked us to (for example, by choosing "Text" on our contact form) or you texted us first. How often depends on the conversation, and usually it's a reply to you. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop our texts, or HELP for help, at any time.
When you say stop, we keep a short record that you asked, and when, so we never reach out by mistake again. The same goes for calls: if you ask us not to call, we keep that on our own do-not-call list.
9. For neighbors who receive the card
The card travels by Every Door Direct Mail, a United States Postal Service program that delivers to every mailbox on a postal route. The cards aren't addressed to anyone by name. We never receive a list of the people or addresses on a route. So the card reaching you doesn't give us your name or address, and we can't take one address off a route.
If you'd rather not receive the card, please tell us anyway. Write [email protected] or call (949) 373-3730. A real person will listen, explain what we can and can't do, and make sure the team hears you.
The neighborhood facts on our pages come from public United States Census estimates and Postal Service route data. They describe neighborhoods, never a household.
If you scan a code on the card or visit our site, this policy covers you like any other visitor.
10. Young people
- The students who design ads work under professional mentors. They work from your brand details and materials, never from your payment details, and they don't have accounts in the Locals 4 Good portal.
- We never publish students' names, photos or identifying details, and we don't share them with donor-partners.
- Locals 4 Good is for adults who run or represent a business. The site isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, write [email protected] and we'll delete it.
11. Automation and artificial intelligence
We're a small team, so automation helps us answer quickly and keep our promises: automatic confirmations and reminders, transcription and summaries of recorded calls and meetings, first replies to emails, and ideas for ads. People stay in charge of what matters. A professional mentor reviews every design our students make, and nothing prints until you approve your proof.
- The artificial intelligence models we use come from Anthropic and OpenAI, under business terms that don't let them train their models on what we send them.
- The site doesn't offer a chat assistant today. If it ever does, this page will say what it collects first.
12. How long we keep information
Remembering people well is how we serve them well, so we keep the records of our work together: your messages, your reservations, your proofs, notes from our conversations, and call recordings. We guard who can see them (section 13). Some records, such as donation records, we must keep for as long as the law requires.
You can ask us to delete your information at any time (section 14). We'll delete what we can, and keep only what the law requires and the short record of any "stop" you've given us, so we can keep honoring it.
13. How we protect it
- Every page uses an encrypted connection.
- Card details stay with Stripe.
- Account rules limit who can see what. Your portal shows you only your own records.
- Files you upload in your portal (your artwork, and images you share in messages) are stored at long, hard-to-guess web links so our team and the online card can show them. Anyone who has a file's exact link can open it, so please share only what's meant for your ad.
- No system is perfect, and we won't pretend ours is. If a breach ever puts your information at risk, we'll tell you promptly, as California law requires. If you find a security problem, please write [email protected].
14. Seeing, changing or deleting your information
You can:
- see and change your name, business name, phone number and website in your portal's Settings, and ask us to change anything else;
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct something that's wrong;
- ask us to delete your information, or to close your portal account. We'll delete what we can. We keep what the law requires (such as donation records), and the short record of any "stop" you've given us, so we can keep honoring it.
Write [email protected] or call (949) 373-3730. Before we share or delete anything, we'll make sure it's really you, for example by writing back to the email address we have on file. We'll answer within 30 days.
California residents. California's Consumer Privacy Act applies to certain businesses, and generally not to nonprofits like The Quietly Working Foundation. We offer the choices above to everyone, wherever you live, and we don't share personal information with anyone for their own direct marketing.
15. Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we'll post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change matters to you, such as a new kind of information or a new way we share it, we'll put a notice on the site and email donor-partners with portal accounts at least 30 days before it takes effect. Every change will fit the foundation's mission.
16. This policy and the foundation's general policy
This policy covers locals4good.org and Locals 4 Good. The foundation's general privacy policy at quietlyworking.org/privacy covers its other websites and programs. Where the two differ about Locals 4 Good, this one governs.
